Maori Bay is a quality west coast beach located between Muriwai and Piha. Features both beach breaks and a rocky point that can produce excellent right-handers on the right swell. Less crowded than neighboring beaches but more exposed to wind. Works best on mid to high tide with clean west swells. Watch for rocks and shallow sections near the point.

Muriwai Beach is a powerful west coast beach break located 40km northwest of Auckland. Known for consistent surf and dramatic gannet colony cliffs, Muriwai handles bigger swells than Piha. Multiple peaks along the beach offer variety, with the northern end usually less crowded. Works on all tides but best with offshore east winds. Experienced surfers only in larger conditions.

Mission Bay is a sheltered eastern beach offering small, mellow waves perfect for absolute beginners. Located close to central Auckland with excellent amenities and cafes. The beach rarely gets quality surf but provides safe learning conditions for first-timers. Works only on high tide with rare east swells. More of a swimming beach but hosts surf lessons during calm summer conditions.

Takapuna Beach is Auckland's premier North Shore beach suburb, offering small, gentle waves perfect for beginners. Located in the heart of Takapuna shopping district with excellent amenities. The beach is sheltered and produces small, fun waves on northeast swells. Very popular with families and learners. Multiple surf schools operate daily. Great cafe culture post-surf.

Whatipu is the most remote and dangerous surf beach in West Auckland. Located at the southern end of the Waitakere Ranges, it features powerful beach breaks and extremely strong rips. Only for very experienced surfers who understand ocean safety. The beach is beautiful but unforgiving. Always surf with others and check conditions carefully.
