The Channel Islands CI Mid is a mid-length surfboard designed by Britt Merrick in collaboration with Devon Howard, aiming to blend classic mid-length glide with modern performance. It features a low entry rocker, a good amount of width and thickness through the front, and a refined tail with a double barrel concave. This design contributes to excellent paddle power, wave-catching ability, and surprising performance in the pocket, allowing for more critical maneuvers than typically found on mid-lengths. The refined rails also enable confident rail surfing. It's versatile and performs well in a wide range of conditions, from shoulder-high surf to double overhead waves. The board is designed to work as a 2+1 fin setup, with a recommended True Ames fin set. Pros include its blend of glide and performance, speed generation, and versatility. Cons are that it may not be ideal for very small, mushy waves or for surfers who primarily focus on tail surfing. The twin fin version offers even more speed and a different feel, particularly down the line, but requires more precise footwork for turning.
