Orewa is a popular family beach on Auckland's North Shore, 40km north of the city. Features consistent beach breaks suitable for beginners to intermediates. The beach is long with multiple peaks, reducing crowds. Works best on northeast to east swells with offshore west winds. Great for learning with several surf schools operating. Less powerful than west coast beaches.

Mission Bay is a sheltered eastern beach offering small, mellow waves perfect for absolute beginners. Located close to central Auckland with excellent amenities and cafes. The beach rarely gets quality surf but provides safe learning conditions for first-timers. Works only on high tide with rare east swells. More of a swimming beach but hosts surf lessons during calm summer conditions.
