Step-by-Step Breakdown
Speed Generation
You need maximum speed. Pump hard down the line. Spot a steep section or a closing-out lip to use as a ramp.
The Launch
Approach the lip more vertically than a floater but less than a snap. As you hit the lip, unweight and pop off the tail.
In the Air
Stay compact (knees to chest). If rotating, turn your head and shoulders. The wind will help keep the board attached to your feet.
The Landing
Spot your landing (preferably the whitewater or transition). Stomp it with both feet centered and compress deeply to absorb the impact.
Elite coaching
Barrel timing, airs, and competition prep benefit from eyes on the beach. Find coaches who work at your level.

- Start with "straight airs" before trying rotations.
- Speed is 80% of the maneuver.
- Don't land in the flats (bottom of wave) or you'll break your board (or ankles).
Ready to put this in the water?
Book a lesson with a local coach or surf school, then match your board to your level.
