The Roundhouse Cutback

An extension of the standard cutback, the roundhouse is a full figure-8 maneuver where you carve all the way back to the foam and rebound off it with power.

Step-by-Step Breakdown

  1. Deep Carve

Initiate a standard cutback but hold the rail longer and harder. Your goal is to turn 180 degrees back towards the breaking wave.

  2. Target the Foam

Look for the whitewater or the curling lip. You want to hit it high and with speed. Don't turn short!

  3. The Rebound

As you hit the foam, bank off it like a berm. Transfer your weight aggressively back to your inside rail to snap the board around.

  4. Exit with Speed

The rebound should propel you forward with renewed speed. Flow straight into your next bottom turn.

Pro tips

  • Hold the rail! If you let go, you'll slide out.
  • Open your chest completely to the wave during the carve.
  • The rebound is the most explosive part—give it everything.
