Stance & Posture

Your stance is your foundation. A good stance gives you stability and mobility, while a bad one makes you stiff and unbalanced.

The Ideal Stance

  1. Foot Placement

Feet should be shoulder-width apart. Front foot angled slightly forward (45 degrees), back foot perpendicular to the stringer (90 degrees). Center your weight over the stringer.

  2. Knees & Hips

Bend your knees, not your waist! Keep your hips fluid and tucked under your torso. Lower your center of gravity for better balance.

  3. Upper Body

Keep your back straight and chest open. Your shoulders should be aligned with the board (mostly sideways, but opening up as you turn). Arms should be out for balance.

  4. Head & Eyes

Keep your head up and eyes focused on where you want to go. Never look down at your feet—it ruins your balance.

Pro tips

  • Avoid the "Poo Stance" (bending at waist, butt sticking out).
  • Keep your back knee tucked in slightly for better style.
  • Relax! Tension makes you stiff and wobbly.
