Step-by-Step Breakdown
Approach & Grip
Paddle straight towards the oncoming wave. As it approaches (about 6ft away), grab the rails firmly near your shoulders.
The Flip
Take a deep breath and roll your body to one side, flipping the board upside down. You should be underwater, pulling the board down tight against the surface.
Hold Tight
Keep your arms bent and hold the board firmly. Let the whitewater wash over the bottom of the board. Do not wrap your legs around the board.
Flip Back
Once the turbulence passes, pull on one rail and push on the other to flip the board back over. Climb back on and start paddling immediately.

- Always hit the wave perpendicular (90 degrees).
- Don't let go of your board! It's dangerous for others.
- Wait for a lull if the waves are too big or frequent.
